I am lucky enough to have a wonderful husband and a beautiful daughter. With all of the bad things in the world, all I have to do is look into the eyes of my child or my soul mate and know that I am blessed.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I met my husband in December 2000 at The Greenville News. I was the Head Sports Clerk in the Sports Department and he was the night cops/breaking news reporter.
You know how they say that loves sneaks up and bites you on the ass when you're not expecting it? I am living proof. I never saw Andy coming until I was blindsided by his charm, grace (hey! no laughing! He is full of it ... grace, I mean.), good looks and humor.
We met on December 3 at like 1:15 a.m. at Connelly's Irish Pub. I started hanging out with him and his pals almost everynight. On December 23 we went out on our first official "date" ... again at 1:15 a.m.-ish in the morning.
Since then, we've been inseparable. We got engaged "unofficially" in May 2002, but he put my DREAM RING on my finger on December 23, 2002. We were married on March 3, 2003.
(Could you say that '3' is our lucky number?)
Our daughter was born on September 24, 2003.

A Friend to the Animals
|
It was 32 degrees, rainy and windy outside on Jan. 12, 2001, but the weather did not stop me (on the right) or another activist (from Mexico) from protesting the circus at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, S.C.
Many other activists carried posters and handed out flyers. The orange and black paint brought out the media in droves. Information was passed out on everything from animal abuse to animals going nuts and killing bystanders to the fact that elephants can transmit tuberculosis to children, the elderly or anyone with a supressed immune system.
Compassion. Learn it, live it. Make a difference!
|
Compassion. It is what I am all about. As an animal owner and lover, I try to educate others on the fact that animals are just as sentient as you or me. They know love, fear, pain, lonliness, sadness and loss.
Many justify animals abuse by saying that animal are not as intelligent as humans or that "that's what God put 'em here for."
A mentally handicap person isn't as intelligent as I am, but that wouldn't justify me abusing, or worse yet, murdering him.
And as for the God issue, Jesus was the Prince of Peace!

Back to Work!
I returned to work in late November. It was so hard! Well, it's still hard to walk out of the house five times a week while leaving my child with someone else. Even if it is Andy or my sister.
We are very lucky in that Andy works during the day and I work at night. On days that our schedules overlap, we have a wonderful nanny! My sister, Terri, stays at the apartment and entertains our little diva until daddy gets home each night.
I've begun to re-decorate my desk with photos of Bella, too!

It's all in the Stars!
I have always been intrigued by astrology. Not a normal Catholic passtime, but then again, I'm not your normal Catholic, am I?
I bought this book, "The Little Giant Encyclopedia of the Zodiac" by the Diagram Group a few years ago. The first half handles the Western zodiac, while the second half is about the Chinese zodiac. It also has a section that combines your two signs together.
I am a Scorpio (Nov. 11) in the Western and a Dragon (1976) in the Chinese. According to that book, I am described as:
"Passionate and unpredictable, Scorpio Dragons often provoke strong reactions and create intense dramas. They never compromise or give up. Dragons are suspicious anyway, but combined with Scorpio's jealous and vengeful nature, this is not a person to have as an enemy."
This cracks me up, as I am passionate and I tend to be a drama queen. ... but in a good way!
Andy, on the other hand, is a Sagittarius (Nov. 24)-Ox (1973). This combination is described as:
"Sagittarius brings balance to the Ox. These Oxen are the most open-minded of the breed. All Oxen are given to reflexion, but Sagittarian Oxen go to lengths of philosophizing."
Philosopher Andy ... and you thought the whole Daddy thing was odd.
